MacBook Pro M6

Apple on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, announced a refreshed 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by its new M6 chip. The laptop adds a faster processor, stronger on-device AI performance and newer wireless standards. Apple is also promising up to 24 hours of battery life, which it calls the longest ever in a Mac.

In India, the new MacBook Pro starts at ₹2,39,900, or ₹2,27,900 with education pricing. Pre-orders open on 28 October and deliveries begin on Friday, 6 November.

What’s New in This Model

M6 is a step up from the M5 in the previous 14-inch model. According to Apple, it has these main features:

  • 12-core CPU, two more cores than before
  • 12-core GPU with Neural Accelerators in each core, up to 30% faster graphics than M5
  • Up to 25% faster on-device AI workloads such as LLM prompt processing, compared with M5
  • Dual 16-core Neural Engine, up to 1.9x faster than M5
  • 16GB unified memory as standard, configurable up to 32GB, with bandwidth up to 170GB/s
  • Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6
  • Space black and silver finishes

Apple also says M6 has “the world’s fastest CPU core.” That is the company’s own claim and has not yet been independently tested.

Performance Claims for M1 and M5 Owners

Apple aimed its benchmarks at people upgrading from older machines. Compared with the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1, it claims:

  • Up to 13x faster LLM prompt processing (time to first token)
  • Up to 11.7x faster ray-traced rendering in Blender
  • Up to 3.3x faster image processing in Affinity
  • Up to 2.5x faster Xcode project builds

Against the M5 MacBook Pro, Apple claims the gains are about 1.2x to 1.3x in the same tests. These are manufacturer figures, so real-world results may vary. Independent reviews will give a clearer picture once units reach reviewers.

Display, Ports and Everyday Features

The design is largely unchanged. The laptop keeps the Liquid Retina XDR display, which reaches up to 1,600 nits of peak HDR brightness with a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. A nano-texture option reduces glare.

Other features include:

  • A 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View
  • A six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio
  • HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3, three Thunderbolt 4 ports and a headphone jack
  • Fast charging to 50% in 30 minutes with a compatible higher-wattage adapter, such as Apple’s 96W unit
  • An enclosure made from 100% recycled aluminium

For users coming from Intel-based Macs or the M1 generation, Apple says battery life improves by up to 14 hours and up to four hours respectively.

The Software Side: macOS 27 and Siri AI

The laptop ships with macOS 27, which brings Siri AI and more Apple Intelligence features. Apple says Siri AI can use personal context from messages, emails and photos, and that it works with privacy protections. It is built into Spotlight and context menus.

Safari gains tools to organise tabs by topic and to alert users to price drops or restocks. Shortcuts can create automations from a plain description. A new slider in Settings lets users adjust the Liquid Glass look from ultraclear to fully tinted.

Where It Sits in Apple’s Mac Line-Up

This update covers the standard M6 chip in the 14-inch model. It does not add M6 Pro or M6 Max versions, according to Macworld. Engadget notes that the 16-inch MacBook Pro remains on M5-generation silicon.

Apple also launched a 24-inch iMac with M6 on the same day, according to RTTNews and others. In the United States, the MacBook Pro starts at $1,999.

Apple’s Statement

Shelly Goldberg, Apple’s vice president of Hardware Engineering, said the 14-inch MacBook Pro suits students, business professionals and creators alike. She said M6 raises performance and on-device AI capability while the laptop keeps its battery life, display and connectivity.

Why It Matters for Indian Buyers

For anyone with an M1 or Intel MacBook Pro, the upgrade case is the strongest part of this launch. The faster chip and longer battery life matter most there, along with the extra Thunderbolt port and the 16GB memory floor.

The AI focus also signals Apple’s direction. The company is putting more local processing power into laptops, so tasks like image generation and running language models can happen on the device. Apple frames this as better for privacy. Whether everyday users notice the difference will depend on how well macOS 27’s features work in practice.

What to Watch Next

Independent benchmarks and battery tests will show how the M6 compares with the M5 and with rival laptops. Buyers should also watch for retailer discounts and bank offers around the 6 November launch. Higher-end Pro and Max chip models have not been announced. If you’re deciding between the 14-inch and 16-inch models, it is worth waiting for those details.
