Jailer 2 box office day 1

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 hit theatres worldwide on Thursday, October 15, 2026, after one of the strongest advance booking runs for a Tamil film this year. Trade trackers put the first-day pre-sales at somewhere between ₹27 crore and over ₹50 crore, depending on what they count and when they checked. Several analysts expect an opening above ₹100 crore worldwide.

These are estimates and not final collections. Official first-day numbers are usually released a day or two after the film opens.

What the advance booking numbers show

Trade sources do not agree on one figure, mainly because they count different things. Some include “block seats” held by distributors and fan clubs, and some do not. Others took their snapshots at different times.

  • Pinkvilla put the India advance at about ₹32 crore and the worldwide figure above ₹60 crore the day before release, with over $3 million from overseas.
  • ETV Bharat reported about ₹27 crore gross in India for day one.
  • Outlook cited trade estimates of over ₹40 crore, with more than ₹10 crore from Tamil Nadu across over 3,300 shows, including block seats.
  • Filmibeat reported ₹41.48 crore in presales for day one, with 19.6 lakh tickets sold.
  • Sacnilk reported that worldwide day-one advance sales crossed ₹50 crore gross, and that the film passed one million tickets on BookMyShow.

The gap between ₹27 crore and ₹50 crore is wide. It is best to treat these as ranges and wait for confirmed numbers from the producers.

Day 1 forecasts from the trade

The forecasts are also spread out:

  • Pinkvilla expected the film to cross ₹100 crore worldwide on day one.
  • ETV Bharat cited trade estimates of ₹125 to ₹140 crore worldwide, and said an overseas opening of $7 to $8 million was possible. It added that more than ₹120 crore would make this the third-biggest opening in Tamil cinema.
  • Film business expert Sumit Kadel told Filmibeat that the film could earn ₹70 to ₹80 crore gross in India on day one, across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi versions.
  • Trade analyst Girish Wankhede told Outlook he expects at least ₹50 crore on day one and more than ₹200 crore in the opening weekend.

These are opinions. They are not figures from Sun Pictures, the film’s producer, and none of them has been confirmed.

Where the film stands against Coolie and the first Jailer

Jailer 2 is written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran’s Sun Pictures. Rajinikanth returns as retired jailer Muthuvel Pandian, and Anirudh Ravichander is back as composer. The 2023 original, released on August 10, 2023, grossed over ₹600 crore worldwide, according to Pinkvilla.

The film is also being compared with Rajinikanth’s own Coolie. Filmibeat reports that Coolie opened at ₹65 crore net and ₹75 crore gross in India, and that Coolie still holds the record for opening-day advance sales at ₹46 crore gross, according to ETV Bharat. If the higher forecasts for Jailer 2 come true, it could pass Coolie on opening day.

How audiences are reacting

The first reactions on social media are positive but mixed. Viewers praised Rajinikanth’s screen presence, Nelson’s comedy, the interval block and Anirudh’s background score. Many also talked about Hrithik Roshan’s cameo.

Some viewers felt the second half lost pace and that the cameos did not have the impact of the first film’s, according to Filmibeat and Business Today. These are fans’ posts and not critic reviews. Word of mouth over the next few days will matter more than the opening.

Why the opening matters

A big start would confirm that Rajinikanth is still among the country’s biggest box office draws, and that sequels to hit Tamil films can travel well to Telugu, Kannada and Hindi markets. The overseas numbers will also be watched, especially from the Middle East and the US, which are strong markets for Tamil films.

There is also pressure to match the first film’s success. A solid opening does not decide that. What counts is whether collections hold through the first weekend and the following week.

What happens next

The first official collection figures should appear within a day or two. After that, the first weekend, the first-week total and the worldwide gross will show how the film is holding up. We will update this article once confirmed figures are available.
