OnePlus is set to unveil the OnePlus 16 in China on Monday, October 12, 2026, at 7:00 pm local time, which is 4:30 pm IST. The company has already confirmed most of the phone’s hardware, leaving official pricing as the biggest open question going into the launch.
The flagship arrives after a run of teasers on Weibo and pre-reservations in China, and it will be one of the first phones to use Qualcomm’s new top-tier chip.
Launch Details at a Glance
OnePlus announced the October 12 date on its official Weibo account, as reported by Android Authority and cited by TechRepublic. Pre-reservations opened in China on September 21, according to tech-ish.
China is the only confirmed market. Android Headlines reported that no US or European release is planned.
Hardware OnePlus Has Confirmed
Processor and software: The phone uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, Qualcomm’s new flagship chip announced on September 22, and runs ColorOS 17 based on Android 17. Reports say it can be configured with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
Display: A 6.78-inch BOE X4 panel with a 165Hz system-wide refresh rate and up to 185Hz in supported games. OnePlus has also highlighted native 185fps gaming.
Cameras: A 200MP main camera with a 1/1.4-inch sensor, a 50MP periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide. A 50MP front camera has also been reported.
Battery and charging: A 9,000mAh Glacier battery with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, according to TechRepublic’s tracker.
Durability and connectivity: A promotional image reported by Gizmochina lists IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings, tri-frequency GPS, quad-frequency BeiDou, USB 3.2 Gen 1 over USB-C, n79 band support, dual stereo speakers tuned by Master, a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and a new X-axis linear motor.

How It Compares With the OnePlus 15
The OnePlus 16 trades some specifications for others. Its wired charging is rated at 100W, below the 120W of the OnePlus 15, according to tech-ish, which drew the earlier figure from OnePlus’s own spec page. 91mobiles noted that the USB 3.2 Gen 1 port is slower than the USB4 it attributes to the OnePlus 15.
The battery grows, however, from the OnePlus 15’s 7,300mAh to 9,000mAh, a gain of about 23%, according to the Sunday Guardian. OnePlus has not explained the charging change, and 91mobiles speculated it could reflect cost pressures from rising component prices. That is the outlet’s interpretation, not a company statement.
Design and Colours
The phone keeps a square camera module in the upper-left corner, similar to its predecessor. It will come in three colours: Tomorrow’s Starlight, Dark Forest and Mars Masterpiece.
The Tomorrow’s Starlight version has an illuminated rear panel that the company calls the Interstellar Light Effect, with segments that light up and galactic coordinates etched into the glass. 91mobiles reported the lights can respond to calls, notifications, music, charging and games.
The Price Is Still Unknown
OnePlus has not announced pricing. TechRepublic said an earlier leak pointed to a starting price of CNY 4,999, about $740, but that pre-booking information casts doubt on it because the reservation lineup begins at 12GB/256GB rather than the 8GB/256GB model that figure was tied to. For reference, the OnePlus 15 launched in China at CNY 3,999 for its 12GB/256GB version.
Official figures should be revealed at the launch event.
What It Means for India
OnePlus has not announced an India launch. My Mobile India reported that an Indian debut is expected around December 2026 or January 2027, a timeline that remains unconfirmed. Digit reported unofficial estimates of Rs 64,999 to Rs 89,990, and several reports say a OnePlus 16R is tipped for India, though that has not been confirmed.
Why the Launch Matters
OnePlus has put more attention on its budget phones in recent months, so the OnePlus 16 signals that it is staying in the flagship race. The combination of a large battery, a 200MP main camera and gaming-focused display features aims at buyers who want performance rather than only a premium design.
What Happens Next
Pricing, final configurations and sale dates are expected at Monday’s event. Reviews and benchmark tests are likely to follow once units reach reviewers. For Indian buyers, the next step is an official statement from OnePlus about a local launch date.
This article was prepared ahead of the launch, so details may change once the official announcement is made.
