Google has introduced the Fitbit Edge, a $179.99 fitness tracker with a 1.34-inch display, built-in GPS and a claimed battery life of up to seven days. Announced on Monday, October 12, 2026, the Edge sits between the screenless Fitbit Air and the Pixel Watch 5 in Google’s wearables lineup, offering glanceable information without the full feature set of a smartwatch.
Pre-orders are open now, and the tracker goes on sale on October 27. It works with both Android phones and iPhones.
A Middle Option in Google’s Lineup
The Edge is the first Fitbit tracker with a screen since the Charge 6 arrived in 2023, according to gHacks and PhoneArena. Google priced it above the Fitbit Air, which costs $99.99 and has no screen or built-in GPS, and well below the Pixel Watch 5, which starts at $349.99. Several outlets describe it as the successor to the Charge line.
The Fitbit Air launched in the US on May 26 and reached India on October 2 at Rs 13,999, according to Smartprix and Fitcoin. The Edge adds a display for map directions, notifications, weather and music controls on top of the Air’s slim band and tracking features, TechCrunch reported.
Design and Display
The Edge uses an oblong aluminium case that is 11.5mm thick and weighs 17.7g without the band, according to PhoneArena, which reported that the housing is made from 100% recycled aluminium. Google says the case is 45% lighter than an Apple Watch Series 12.
The 1.34-inch OLED display offers a 46% larger viewing area than the Charge 6, according to Neowin and Android Authority, and the tracker has a physical side button that opens apps and can play or pause music. The tracker is rated IP68 for dust and water resistance and 5ATM, meaning water resistance to 50 metres.
Android Authority noted that the Edge uses a new snap-in band system, so older Fitbit or Pixel Watch bands will not fit. Bands include the Active Sport at $39.99, Magnet at $59.99 and Metal Links at $149.99, with the $49.99 Performance Loop due later. The tracker comes in Obsidian, Fog, Olive and Canyon, and a Stephen Curry Special Edition costs $219.99.

Battery and Charging
Google rates the battery at up to seven days. A full charge takes about 90 minutes, which gHacks said is half an hour less than the Charge 6, and the tracker uses the same magnetic USB-C charger as the Fitbit Air.
It is also the first Fitbit with a user-replaceable battery, according to gHacks. 9to5Google reported that, as with the Pixel Watch 5, owners can open the device to replace the battery. How easy that is to do at home remains to be seen.
Tracking and Health Features
The Edge has built-in GPS, which Google says is about 40% more accurate than the previous generation, and sleep-stage detection that it says is 15% more accurate, according to TechCrunch. It carries over a far-field skin temperature sensor from the Pixel Watch, according to gHacks, and Android Authority said it also has ECG and PPG sensors.
Google says the Edge can automatically recognise and log up to 100 activities, and supports more than 50 exercise modes with on-screen prompts, according to a summary of TechCrunch’s report. The tracker connects to the Google Health app and offers AI-powered Coach guidance, as the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 5 do. The same account can be used across the Fitbit Air, Edge and Pixel Watch 5, according to 9to5Google.
The device runs a Fitbit operating system rather than Wear OS, with swipeable tiles for notifications, timers, weather, music and maps.
What the Edge Leaves Out
Android Authority listed several omissions compared with the Pixel Watch 5. The Edge has no NFC chip, so no contactless payments, and its GPS does not use the dual-frequency technology of the Pixel Watch 5. It has no microphone or speaker, so alerts come through vibration and calls cannot be made or answered. On iPhone, quick replies to messages are not supported.
Pricing and the Premium Subscription
The Edge costs $179.99 in the US, £159.99 in the UK and €179.99 in Europe, according to The 5K Runner. That is about $20 more than the Charge 6’s regular price, gHacks noted. It includes three months of Google Health Premium.
PhoneArena pointed out that many of the best features require Premium, which costs $9.99 a month after the trial. By its estimate, the first-year cost comes to about $269.90 if buyers keep the subscription.
Availability and India
Pre-orders opened on October 12 through the Google Store and partners, with general availability on October 27. Android Headlines reported that the Edge launches in 20 countries initially, including the US, Canada, the UK, most of Europe, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.
India is not on that initial list, according to Android Headlines, although the Fitbit Air is already on sale there. ETV Bharat said Google has not revealed plans for an Indian launch, and converted the US price to about Rs 17,000. Indian pricing and timing have not been announced.
Why It Matters
The Edge shows Google filling the gap between a simple band and a full smartwatch at a price that undercuts the Pixel Watch 5. For buyers who want a screen, GPS and multi-day battery without a larger watch, it offers a lighter option, though with fewer features and a subscription for some of them.
What Happens Next
Reviews are expected once units ship on October 27, and will test Google’s battery, GPS and sleep accuracy claims, which are manufacturer figures. Google may announce more countries in the coming weeks.
